From my feedback from my tutor and also from my own annotations, I needed to re-look at the front cover especially for the typography, font and title, to look at the font to find a better fit, and to look at the design and placement better.
My tutor suggested a colour for the font, which I thought was a good idea as this was one of the things I found out in the research for front covers, and how to make them more fun for children and the age range you are working with.
She suggested the blue of Floras dungarees, which I agreed with, it shows a connection with the character and keeps the book look consistent, plus its a strong pop of colour, and also a nice colour which children would like.
I had a look at different fonts and tested, which you can see in my research section, but ultimately decided upon this font which is called ‘ Chalkboard SE’ it is a rounded font which would look friendly to children, it is very clear and easy to read, and is bold enough to look eye catching.
I decided to keep the typography in a slight arch over Flora, this looked better than in a straight line, and gave a cocooning effect that again looked friendly for children. I added my name at the bottom, I noticed on all the other children’s picture books I have by authors and illustrators that they only use their name on the front, rather than putting ‘written and illustrated by Ruth Goodwin’.

I then went on to add the blurb on the back cover, and just check that I was happy with the design and illustrations. I added in another illustration of a plant, I scaled this up to give more depth to the picture, then added in a short bit about the book, I thought this added mystery and a bit of drama to catch children’s and parents imagination.
The other children’s books I have did a similar thing , so I kept to that style of writing on the back.
