Feedback from project 3

Yes my surface pattern Instagram has a link tree on there which sends customers to my website, wholesale page and commissions. I was on Etsy and did really well, but they put their fees up so much, I came off it as it wasn’t worth it in the end. I’m hoping to do a few makers markets this year to sell direct to the public again.

Yes I’m using Fig Taylors recommendations to update my website, as well as the research I’ve just completed for project 4 – agents.

I did some research on layout, type only book in 3.1, its something I will look more into in unit 3.3, when I will work more on my book.

Im not approaching publishers yet, it will be in the future, my book is not ready for that yet, but yes some ideas for synopsis research would be a good idea, I will add that into a relevant project, but it will probably be for unit 3.3 which is more about my book, rather than external partners.

I have done a few BLADS in previous units, made them myself which was good as it helped to see the book in a physical form, again its something to look at in unit 3.3.

I didn’t intend to put my book work out onto Instagram/ social media yet as I feel the art work is still not quite right, but I have put a few pages on my portfolio website (the ones Im happy with). I have put some of my sketchbook work on my illustration Instagram page of characters I’ve come up with. I looked at Stephanie Murphys Instagram and website and it is also the type of work I have seen in the agency portfolios, so its defiantly something I am looking at working on to build up my work especially on my portfolio.

I have entered quite a lot of competitions over the last few years for my illustrations and surface pattern designs. I have just entered my surface pattern designs for the upcoming Uppercase Magazine ‘Surface pattern design guide’, which I am hoping to hear back from soon.

Also submitting my portfolio to Illo Agency, I think that’s enough for now, as Ill be also working on my bork more in 3.3 for the Pan MacMillan competition next year.

I’ve only just looked at the AOI again, so I’ll have a look at their podcasts and other information to see what suits my work best.

I feel I am completing the objectives set by James well, I have done a lot of the research he has suggested. Obviously having done most of the work for this unit last year in relation to the book illustrations, it is just the written work that he has said to concentrate on, (as explained in my first email) so next is to have more content in my critical review to bring this up to 4500-5000 words.

Also to bring in the external projects part of this unit, I think working on my portfolio for the agent would be considered a project that engages with external partners LO1. I think this has also created an opportunity with an external partner that would help my emerging practise and help me in the future LO2.

LO3 I think working more on my portfolio website and coming up with a few pieces based on the research and information I have acquired would create a new body of work. I have to be mindful of all the art work I did last year and keep the work to a minimum, so I need to think about how many new pieces to do.

LO4 creating a better portfolio based on all the new knowledge, with the help of the research and agent would communicate my new knowledge and understanding.
