I have added the new character designs to page 4 and also page 7, I still need to add some more small details before the pages are completely finished, but I am happy with these so far.

I decided to let Floras wings come outside of the oval design for the spot illustration, I think this adds another level of difference to the book, and I have done the same for spot page 7 as well, so there is some consistency through the book with this style too.

I think these both look better than the previous incarnations, both the designs and styles.
Working pages 1&2 I added in the new character pose of Flora, worked on her facial expression and features, so she looks sad and troubled.

I started working on spread pages 12&13

This page shows Rory and his friends being naughty, pulling branches down, pulling up flowers and plants, and breaking twigs and parts of bushes. I changed the composition, so I took out the house, as I found this look was too repetitive in the book, I made the composition more zoomed in, so it’s a larger look of the garden, and also I made Grace and Elsie larger that Rory and Thomaz to show the depth of the piece.

Page 19, I added in the new style of Flora and Rory, and sort of got the composition of Flora completed ok, she is pulling Rory on the leaf and is flying at the same time, so hopefully it looks ok.
I used the same illustration for the spot page 15, but as it has different elements I feel it works ok. I may change the composition slightly once the book is complete as if I think it needs to be different, I will complete it before assessment.

Then I completed spot page 18, I just needed to add in the new design of Rory into this page, I did move around the hare and Rory as well, to get a better composition than the one before, but I happy with it now.

I completed page 5&6 by adding in the new style of Rory, plus this pose of home pulling Terrence’s branch down.
I used the similar pose to update page 14, I think this looks good for both, I’m also happy with the watercolour painterly mask effect for spot page 14, I think it gives an earthy texture and look to the book.

I then updated spot page 24 where Rory is watering the plants and sowing seeds, planting bulbs. I need to add in the new drawn and painted Rory in the newest style. I erased the old Rory first then got the background back to the way it was, then added in the new drawing, but used the old watering can, as this still worked well in this design.

I also needed to update page 26 which is the final spread in the book, I added in the new version of Flora, but changed the pose of Rory which I was going to pick, I decided to use the one of him holding a little bird. I thought this worked better with the story and words, rather than the watering can design.
This page is where the narrator says the hook line “Rory is Floras gardening Angel”

I also changed the bird to a little blue one, as I thought it would look good as Rory and Flora are both in blue too.
I worked on three pages which needed the background painted so I started on these next.

These were pages 8&9, page 25, and the front cover.

Page 8&9 was painting Rory looking from behind.

Rory and Terrence for the front cover.

And a little group of supporting characters for the picnic scene.

I started to build up page 8&9.

I used surface pattern to add in the curtains, to add that element to this spread.

I decided to change the curtains, as I thought it should be a boys bedroom, it needs to look more unisex. I chose this design I had created, as it had nature within it, as it was abstract trees, and also a variety of colours.

I then started on the new front cover, I wanted to add the elements I had used before, but to add in the three characters to the page.

I then started working on page 25, which is the picnic scene with the unusual composition of looking down on to the garden dip.

I was happy with how they were looking, but wanted to see them all together. So I arranged them into a file on my phone, then took a screen shot of the whole lot, to show the flow and process.
