Exercise 1.1

Thinking about your work space

Where do you work, do you already have a studio or office space? If not what would it look like and where could you create one? Write down your thoughts about this, share photos if you already have a space. Would you use your work as inspiration, would it be minimal, or full of all your materials?

I have my spare room as my office and studio, it is also where I run my small Etsy shop from and also sell wholesale with my products, I also create surface pattern designs and am hoping to sell and license these this year at Surtex the New York show, so my room is very eclectic and holds all the areas of work I do for my Illustration business.

At the moment it has had to be condensed to one side of the room, as I have used the other side to do Yoga since lock down, and also as a spare room at times.

I maybe moving at some point soon as well, so I am hoping to have a whole room just as my studio going forward if its possible.

I would love to spread out more and feel more relaxed that it has one purpose, and not a flexi multi function room, I can leave everything out and not have to tidy away each night.

I have decorated some areas with my sample s of fabrics for patterns, and have some of my products out on show, my room is quite colourful, bright and a sunny room. It’s very inspirational in the spring and summer as its light and bright, and cosy in the winter.

I have all my pens and pencils on shelves easy to access and use, I have children’s books on shelves and some of my own paintings and illustrations dotted around.
